About the client
Speech Bubbles is a weekly drama programme taking place in school time, designed to give children an opportunity to have fun telling stories and acting them out.
Role
Kat has delivers Speech Bubbles in a specialist school for children with social, emotion and mental health needs and sometimes other disabilities.
She adapts the Speech Bubbles model, alongside the SENCO and other school staff, to deliver a programme which sets the students up for success.
Objectives
Supporting children to gain confidence and develop their communication and emotional regulation skills.
How is this achieved?
Ongoing adaptation of the drama activities to ensure they meet the students' needs.
Fostering positive relationships with students and school staff.
Creating a safe and playful environment where the expectations of the students are clear.
Results
Students who struggled to take part in groups worked 1:2:1 for a period and have now successfully been reintegrated into group settings.
A child chose Kat as one of their trusted adults in an annual review demonstrating the strength of relationship fostered through Speech Bubbles.
